Known as one of the best places to go canyoning in Australia, the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, is a playground for weekend adventurers. Spend your days walking deep into the Aussie bush, scrambling over rocks, abseiling off ledges, swimming through dark ravines, sliding down boulders, and launching yourself off jagged rock walls 10 metres above shallow pools of icy water. Canyoning here is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
If you don’t have your own gear, or have a friend who does (like us), there are plenty of tour operators you can book a trip with – and you can be a complete newbie, too. As long as you’re not (too) afraid of heights and can swim, you’re in luck.
To whet your appetite, The Adventure Journal co-founder Lachlan Ennion captured his recent canyoning/camping trip on film. Let us know what you think.[Filming: Lachlan Ennion; editing: Jennifer Ennion; music: Sprinting with Fire by Crescendo Boy.]
